ACM members work on a problem. The purpose of the Stetson chapter of The Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) is to encourage and enhance interest in and understanding of the concepts of computer operations and their development, and to explore and promote an understanding both within the organization and the local community of the importance of computers in our modern society.

In order to accomplish our purpose we have brainstormed several ideas.  We hope to develop a means for students to do and present independent projects on any topic of interest such as robotics, graphics, or internet development.  This not only includes independent projects but also seniors can present their senior projects to create better awareness and appreciation for senior research.

We believe that sharing knowledge is just as important as learning it.  Currently, each semester we invite guest speakers from other universities to talk about their field of expertise.  We host a high school programming contest every spring semester to encourage and challenge high school students to develop their programming and analytical skills.  We also go on exciting field trips to institutions that develop new and existing technology.  These field trips allow us to get hands on experience and better appreciation for the computer industry.

Last, but not least, we are all about having fun.  Finding out new and interesting things is fun most of the time, but in addition to doing projects and going on trips, we like to take breaks.  We sometimes play networked game tournaments and go to picnics with the Math/CS department.  It's all fun stuff!
